Jenny Simanowitz
Jenny is a British stage personality and author living in Vienna. Born in South Africa during apartheid, she rebelled early against the injustices of the system as well as the rigid sexual morality of her upbringing. From founding a school for so-called 'unteachable' adolescents in the 1970s, joining a free sexuality commune in the 80s, to setting up her own marketing and communication firm in the 90s, the drive to challenge accepted norms has been a tenet of her work and a personal ethic throughout her life.
Her latest battle is with the diminishing social presence of older people and how this discrimination affects women, in particular in the sexual realm. Jenny’s onstage charisma and humour in dealing with this topic, led to her being invited to hold the final lecture of TEDxVienna 2022: We need to talk about sex and ageing, which spurred her on to complete her memoir, Dirty Old Woman. She is a published author in her field, in German, and has been performing what she terms ‘communications cabaret’ across Austria and Germany for the past 20 years. She recently had a sold-out performance of her autobiographical play, Dirty Old Women, at the Brighton Fringe and is currently working on her second book.
